5 Sinus Infection Symptoms You Should Know About - Nurse's Secrets

If you're prone to getting sinus infections from time to time you may want to be aware of some of the symptoms you most likely will experience

. You may experience some of these, most of these or all of these but these 5 sinus symptoms are the ones you will most likely suffer from. I used to suffer from sinus infection symptoms myself so have firsthand knowledge of what it's like.

1. Nasal obstruction. The sinus infection symptom you may be aware of first is a slight congestion in your nasal passages or nose area. You may feel pain, pressure or discomfort behind your nose and forehead or around your cheeks. Sometimes you may have a sinus headache. Most of these symptoms are a result of the swelling in the sinus cavities- sinusitis.

2. Nasal discharge. You may start spitting up little pieces of mucous that are yellow in color. Or they may be whitish or greenish. But you can be certain you probably have a sinus infection if your mucous is yellow. Greenish or whitish mucous can indicate a sinus infection but can be something else as well.

3. Post nasal sinus drainage or post nasal drip. I'm sure you've heard the term post nasal drip often but many people don't know what it is. It's the mucous that drains down into the back of your throat, around the clock, from your sinuses. You may feel a big lump of mucous in your throat or slightly choke on it. There may be more collecting there at night while you're asleep. (Sleep propped up!) You have this sinus drainage all the time but when you have an infection you can have considerably more sinus drainage and it can be lumpy. This mucous can cause a slightly irritated throat also, making you believe you're getting a sore throat. A warm salt water rinse will ease it up and it should go away fast - but not too much salt.

4. A persistent cough. You may find you're coughing off and on. Just a slight cough in the beginning but can progress to a hacking cough if the sinus infection takes hold. People have even cracked their ribs from coughing due to a sinus infection so you want to get rid of it as fast as you can. Protect your ribs when you cough.

5. Clogged ears. You may feel pressure in one or both ears from the mucous that is obstructing the openings of the Eustachian tubes. These are the tubes that empty from your middle ear into your throat.

There is a lot you can do to get rid of a sinus infection at home with natural treatment for you sinuses. Don't let these sinus infection symptoms get the best of you.
