5 Ways To Beat Procrastination
The journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step. We have all heard this or some version of it at some point in our lives. Trite, maybe but true never the less. Procrastination is the hurdle we have to jump to make that first step. Time is not your friend in any business. If you are slow to get moving you loose valuable opportunities most one of a kind. Read on to see several ways you can avoid the temptation to procrastinate.1. Make a to do list then prioritize it. Knowing what is the most important thing you need to accomplish will get the juices flowing. If you have several tasks with deadlines, start with the one that is due first and go from there. It is like packing for a trip, if you load the larger items first you can fit the smaller non essential items in around them but if you do it the other way around you may not be able to fit something of importance into the suitcase. 2. Clutter is the enemy. Organize the area you are working in. organize your email. Organize the direction of your workday. Those items that are of least importance is better left out of sight or at the bottom of the pile. If you have to sift through a mountain of non-essentials you will loose focus.3. Give yourself plenty of time but do set a limit. One of the favorite thoughts of the chronic procrastinator is there is plenty of time. This thought pattern helps you to justify putting what you know you have to do off for a period of time. If you set a goal and you honestly know you can accomplish it in a day or two give yourself four or five. Why? If you start right away you will be able to accomplish the goal in record time but because you have exceeded the deadline you will feel a broader sense of accomplishment which is a way to motivate yourself to better next time.4. Do not put it off. Start in on the major part of the project right away. If you get the hard part started and done. The rest will fall into place a lot easier. Whatever is going to take the most time and effort should be the first step in accomplishing the goal.5. Do not fail to reward even the smallest success. Having a reward system is a way to keep you from feeling dissatisfied.Procrastination can be overcome but like any other bad habit you have to work at it. After a period of time following these steps procrastination will be replaced. It takes 15 days to form a habit, now you have a goal.
