. Most people think that to be a pub local you simply need to live close to a pub and frequent it occasionally. Whilst this may be the common preconception, it is far from true. Being a local is more than just living close to a pub..

So if you're wondering whether you have the right to consider yourself truly a pub local, here are a few things you might want to consider.

1.Do You Know The Names Of The Bartenders?

A prerequisite for considering yourself a pub local is knowing the name of some, if not most of the bartenders. Whilst most pubs have a pretty high staff turnover rate, if you are a frequent visitor of the pub in question, you should be able to keep up with this.

2.Do The Bar Staff Already Know What You Drink?

Chances are, if you have to tell the bar staff what you want; you aren't a local unless of course you switch drinks on a regular basis. If they know what you drink then you are definitely on the right track.

3.Do You Know The Owner?

True locals without question know the owner of their local pub. Given the importance of locals to pubs, generally the owners like to get to know their high rolling customers.

4.Do You Feel A Little Bit Guilty Going To Another Pub?

Being a local of a pub involves mutual respect and loyalty so if you for one reason or another do go to a different pub for a one off, you should feel a little bit guilty (especially if it's a nearby pub).

5.Can You Put Your Drinks On Lay Buy?

If you're a true local, you should be able to walk into your pub with no money knowing you can pay for your drinks at a later date. If the pub manager or whoever is behind the bar knows you're good for it then you pretty much have pub local status.
