So many people spend more on buying gifts than they can actually afford

. This is probably because they do not have written budgets and lose track of what they have spent, they simply do not want people to know that they are having financial difficulties, and they just simply do not know how to give gifts without spending so much money.

For those who have trouble understanding that they can give gifts without breaking the bank, they need to understand that we give people whom we love gifts. These are people who love us and do not care how much you spent. They care about you and accept you. These are the people for whom it is the thought that truly counts. You can give them gifts that they will treasure more than stuff you buy in stores.

Give Gifts That You Have Made Yourself

This is the best kind of gift there is because gifts that you have made yourself are the most unique gifts anyone can ever find. Plus, you have poured your heart and soul into these gifts. If you can bake or cook, you can give specially made food treats like jams, pies, cakes and cookies. If you have a garden at home, you can give fresh flowers, vegetables or fruits. You can even put your special treats in jars that you can jazz up with pretty ribbons.

If you have a talent for drawing or painting, you can draw or paint pictures on a small piece of card or board and frame them; these will make lovely gifts. If you are good at writing poetry, then you can write a lovely poem that you can frame and give as gifts. If you click great photographs you can gift your loved ones photos of themselves that you may have taken. Should you be good a crafts like woodwork, you can make small boxes that can be used to store anything the receiver may want. Knitting mittens or scarves can be wonderful gifts too.

Give the Gift of Your Time

If you have no kitchen talents and are terrified at the prospect of attempting to cook something, you can give your time instead. Time is the most priceless commodity in the world today. You can give a homemade certificate to family and friends that can be redeemed later for an evening babysitting their kids.

Use Less Expensive Giftwrapping -- Recycle

Wrapping paper may not look too expensive but the costs add up if you are wrapping so many gifts. You can use alternative means of wrapping instead. You can try using the brown paper bags your groceries come in. Just wrap them up (give them a more crumpled look if you want to) then tie them up with colorful string or yarn. You can use old wrappers that were left over last year (or maybe you can start saving the wrappers that the gifts you received were wrapped in to re-use later).

Give Family Personal Gifts

Give chore certificates like promising to mow the lawn, take out the garbage or fix the porch lamp.

Give You Partner a Romantic Gift

Light the candles, play that romantic CD and have some snuggle time. You can even try surprising your partner with breakfast in bed, or a picnic at the park. You can even set-up a picnic spot in your backyard and have a romantic picnic at home.
