5 Website Design Rules YOU MUST KNOW

When it's your site, more attention should be paid to every minute detail in order to ensure that it works perfectly and serves its purpose. Here are five important rules to follow to ensure your website works well.

1) Stay Away From Splash Pages

Splash pages are the first pages you see when you enter a website. They usually have a set of very beautiful words like quotes or big banners with words screaming for attention such as,"Click here to enter". Actually, they are just that pretty vases with no real purpose. Do not give a reason for your visitor to leave your website, as many visitors are offended that they have to click to enter a site! It is best to give them the value of your site without a front page splash page.

2) Do not Overdose on Banner Ads

Most website visitors agree that they ignore banner ads. It distracts from the website content. Therefore, listen my fellow website designers; do not waste valuable website real estate.

Instead, concentrate on the most valuable assets; the content. Give the visitor an impression that they need to buy your service or product of their own accord instead of being bombarded with ads to make them buy.

3) Simple Navigation Help, Thank You.

You must provide a simple navigation and imagine that it would be easy for a child to navigate too! Try to stay away from the complexity of the Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus. If your visitors do not know how to navigate, they will leave your site. Surf the net to see how your competition and others in your industry have set up their navigation menus. It will be a great starting place.

4) Where Is The Visitor

When visitors are deeply immersed in the navigation of your site, you want make sure they know what part of the site, they are in now. In this way, they will be able to browse relevant information or access to any section of the site easily. Do not confuse your visitors because confusion means they will hop and skip out of your website in a flash.

5) Try To Avoid Audio Unless Necessary

If your visitors will be long on your site, reading your content, you may want to make sure they are not irritated by audio loops. If you insist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it volume or mute would work fine.

If you can follow the simple rules above, website design will be a joy and you will end up with a decent site where the visitor would be more than eager to hop and skip into the other pages of your website then skip out of it!
