7 Productivity Tips for BookieS
Take note of these 7 basic technology-related tips to improve your success as a bookie.
1. Have a main computer
It doesn't necessarily have to be a desktop computer, but you must have a main computer at home to work on your business. It also doesn't need to be expensive or very high-tech. You can do without fancy video cards and high-definition displays.
2. If you travel, take your laptop
It will be likely that you will need to take your work to the local coffee shop or on vacations. You will need a portable computer with similar capabilities to your main computer. There are several options in the market to synchronize documents across all devices you use or even access your main computer remotely.
3. Software, use only what you need
Internet browsers, word processing and spreadsheet applications are the friends of the local bookie. Other more specialized software for bookies is available, but if you are using price per head services, it will most likely be hosted in a different computer and you will be able to access reports from your favorite Internet browser.
4. Stay connected with a smart phone
There are many things you can do with a phone these days and it all comes down to its applications. With the right tools, you should be able to keep track of your business from anywhere and have all the information you need in the palm of your hand.
5. Back up!
You should back up everything you do on an external hard drive. I can't stress this enough. Information you don't back up is information you don't mind losing. Also, consider carrying important files in USB sticks or other external devices you can quickly connect to other computers. Always carry an extra stick with free space in case you need to retrieve information from other source on the go.
6. Have a website
Having a website for your business is a necessity when you're a bookie. Unless you want to do all the work with pen and paper, that is. Price per head services can help you build, design and maintain a website for your business for a small weekly fee.
7. Go social
Social networks are the next big thing. Your business will attract a lot more clients if you're on Facebook, Twitter and LikedIn. These services are free and have a huge impact. Don't just open an account and forget it though, you want to update regularly.
