7 Tips To Get Google+ Working For You Today!

Google+ is proving to be a really popular new social media tool with really good growth and an obvious connection to website ranking

. Even though you may already have the whole arsenal of social media applications already, using Google+ is a must if you're serious about SEO and branding.

As with all social media application you need to register with the tool so, you'll need a Google account!

Once you've registered with Google, you can sign in on the Google+ page.

1. Link your Profile to your Google Account

One of the first things to do it to ensure that your Google+ profile is linked to your Google account as it will then stopyou having to log in and out of the other tools like gmail and YouTube and you will then get your other notifications when you're logged in

2. Use a good photograph

Make sure you use a good photo on your profile and that it matches the ones you've used on all your other online accounts so that people recognise you straight away. Next, you will be asked to find people you know through Yahoo or Hotmail.

3. Find your connections

Find everyone you know. A screen will pop up asking you to 'Find people you know on Google+' through yahoo or hotmail. You can do this or 'skip' it. Google does recommend people for you to connect to from gmail and other accounts too or you can take a bit of time to look for those you know with the search box and add them into your circles.If you don't use these email providers, you can skip this step and continue on to suggestions.

Here, Google will pull connections you might recognize from your Gmail. If you don't use Gmail already or have just created your Google Account, you will not have any suggestions and have to use the Google+ search to find people to connect with.

4. Complete your Profile

Complete your profile and add all the information you're asked for and don't forget your 'tagline'. This is really important as it shows up under your name and is really your meta description of your profile giving people a snapshot of you. Here you can add a few photos too which will show up at the top of your profile.

5. Make your introduction personal

Do an Introduction and make a bit personal so people know it's the 'real' you! Put in relevant links here and make sure you get that first sentence right as it shows up in search results against you name!

6. Set your contact levels

Fill in as much as you can about employment, awards, contact info etc. When you put in your contact details make sure that you set your privacy levels - a bit like Facebook just different names for it!

7. Use your Links

On the right hand side of your profile is a column for links. You can put in all relevant links where you are contributor to another blog for example or a link you just want to recommend to others. As you click on each section, you will get the opportunity to add links with your desired anchor text.
