8 Basketball Violations

On the basis of standard rules of basketball, there are some violations

. Such violations are very important to know about because violations can be a major cause of losing the game even if you are a very good player.

Experienced players are usually well-aware of all types of violations, but beginners need to pay special attention on rules, bonus points, fowls and violations. Here are 10 important violations of live basketball that beginners should always keep in mind:

1.When a player or the ball handler takes more steps than allowed with no dribbling of the basketball. This type of violation is known as walk violation. Frequently it happens after rebounding or after getting ball as pass. There are also many possibilities when the player drives towards the goal point.

2.A violation known as double dribble, committed at the time when the player is dribbling the ball with both hands. There is another condition of this fowl, if the ball handler dribbles the ball and then holds it for even few seconds, then starts dribbling of the ball again.


3.If the opponent team fails to cross basketball to the mid court in the time duration of 10 seconds, a violation is committed that is known as 10 second back court violation. There is another type of violation known as 8 second violation. This condition of this type of violation is the same as in 10 second case.

4.Back court violation is occurred when a player is having the ball and he crosses the line of mid court and then returns back to the back court area. Another condition is when any player passes the basketball by standing in the area of front court, to another player of his team, standing in the back court area.

5.A violation known as lane violation, committed when the player enters in the lane very soon, in case of free throw. As a consequence, a turnover or the offensive team obtains an extra free hit attempt.

6.If the opponent player stays in the free throw area/lane for more than 3 seconds time, then this is a violation known as 3 second rule.

7.5 seconds inbound violation is committed when the player doesnt pass the basketball to his teammate in 5 seconds. The time counted after he has got possession.

8.A violation known as basketball interference has four conditions:

(a) Touching basketball or the basket when the ball is near the rim of the goal basket.

(b) Touch the ball while it is in the cylinder area of the baskets rim.

(c) Reaching to the basket from lower side and touching the basketball either it is still inside or outside.

(d) Pulling the rim downwards so that it could catch the ball before it could reach back to original position.

These are just few significant violations that beginners can easily keep in mind. There are many other rules and violations that a live basketball player must know.
