8 Tips for Dealing with Bloggers Block

We have all been there

We have all been there. You sit down and are ready to write your blog post for the day and all of a sudden your mind goes blank. You had been thinking about what you wanted to write about but the words will just not come. Because I have been there numerous times, here are 8 tips for dealing with bloggers block.

1. Do a search on the topic:

If you have an idea of what you were going to write about, go to the search engines and put that topic in and just browse over other articles or posts on that particular topic. It is a great way to give your mind that boost it was searching for.

2. Visit Other Blogs:

Visit other blogs that are similar to yours and read what they have posted. Sometimes all we need is just that mental boost to get the juices flowing again. They might not have posted anything on the particular topic you had been considering but other ideas may come from visiting other blogs.

3. Look through your blog index:

This is a great way to get ideas of what to write about. Maybe you were going to follow up with more in-depth information about a particular subject but your mind just went blank. This will help jar your memory. Or, you might notice some comments to a particular post that can be the beginning of another post itself. Just glance through your blog index and it might help give you some more ideas.

4. Comment on other blogs:

Give your mind a break and go check out other people's blogs. Read over some of their posts and comment on them. This may help in expanding ideas.

5. Eliminate distractions:

We all have distractions throughout our day. There are some very clever writing tools that can help eliminate those distractions such as Dark Room (for Windows) and Writerroom (for Macs). These programs allow you to see nothing but the words on your screen, you won't even notice your clock. Other than the distractions from using these programs, be sure to be in a quiet room, turn off the cell phone, put the pets in another room, turn the TV off and get to work.

6. Get ideas using HitTail:

Sometimes we all need help with that initial idea. HitTail is a program that analyzes the words on your blog and makes suggestions for related topics you can write about. This is a great source for finding inspiration.

7. Capture Ideas:

Ideas for blog posts come when you least expect them. When this happens be sure to jot down those ideas as soon as they come. A few ways to accomplish this is either carry something with you to write them down, call yourself on the phone and leave a voice mail with your idea, text yourself, send an email, you get the idea. Don't let good ideas go to waste.

8. Take a break:

Sometimes all we really need is just a break from what we are doing. We think so much that we either give ourselves a headache or get too frustrated because we can't remember what we were going to write about. When this happens just take a break from what you are doing. Get up and walk around, get you something to drink, make a phone call, watch the news, anything but what you were doing at the time. This will help with feeling refreshed so you can start blogging once you get back to your computer.

Those are only 8 tips for dealing with bloggers block and I hope they helped. There are plenty other things you can do as well to help start generating those thoughts. This might even be a great topic for a future post the next time this happens to you.
