A 4 Drum Spill Pallet Is A Good Defense Against Contamination In Your Plant

According to the EPA, OSHA and FDA, all chemicals that could be hazardous to health

or life must have a primary and secondary containment system implemented. The chemicals that are in use usually come in barrels or drums. This is the primary container. A 4 drum spill pallet can be considered part of the secondary container.

The use of this type of pallet will allow the leak from a drum, should it occur, to drop down into the reservoir in the bottom. There is enough room for all of the contents from all four barrels to drain in a worst case scenario. They are made from a non reactive polyethylene material with grates installed to allow the chemical to flow easily.

Without a system such as this, a leak will become a spill and get on the floor and other surfaces. This will shut the processing line down and require the procedures stipulated in the guidelines issued by the regulatory agencies. This may cause damage to the surfaces exposed and to the people involved in the area.

All of the non affected personnel and material will need to be moved out of the area and clean up commenced. Those affected will need to be decontaminated as well as any material contaminated. The barriers that will prevent people from reentering this area will be erected and the trained personnel will be brought in.

The recovery from many of the modern day chemicals is a complicated process. The substance must be neutralized and absorbed by special supplies. This material will be disposed of in certified containers and hazardous material companies will be involved in this. Depending on the substances, recycling may be an option. Reconstituting these chemicals may also be a possibility.

A spill pallet, whether in the one, two, four or eight barrel models, will hep prevent this dangerous situation. When the leaking barrel is discovered, the entire pallet can be moved from the area and taken to a chemical clean up space. The leaking drum can be emptied and the rest can simply be transferred to another spill pallet.

The non reactive nature of the pallets will allow them to to be drained and cleaned with the proper neutralizing chemicals and cleaned out. This secondary containment system will save a lot of time and money. The necessary forms, that would otherwise have to be delivered to the governing agencies, will not have to be completed based on local regulations.
