Playing in Two Player Board Games

Playing in Two Player Board Games

There are board games that are made exclusively for two individuals to play. These board games are suitably created for playing together with your wife, friend, or companion. One of these games is the Abalone, which is a strategy game played using fourteen marbles for each player and set in a hexagonal board with 61 spaces. The games objective is to shove the opponents marbles out of the board. Another game is the Chinese Checker with a goal of moving the pieces to the opposite side where the player started, and is played on a six-pointed star shaped board. A game set on an 8 by 8 game board, the Othello, aims to preserve the most number of pieces in the entire game and the player with the most number of pieces left is deemed winner. Other board games that can be played by only two players are Checkers, Suguroku, Kamisado, Stratego, Plateau, Obsession, Backgammon, Cross and Circle, and Downfall.

The Challenging Game of Chess

Chess is among the board games that can only be played by two people. The goal of the game is to subdue the king piece of the other player where it could no longer move much more capture enemy pieces without getting captured. The game includes a checkered chessboard with 64 squares in an 8 by 8 grid. It has 2 sets of 16 playing pieces one for each player composed of one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. Both players take turns in moving a piece in accordance with the game rules but not during castling where two pieces are allowed to move. It is a practice that the players with light colored pieces make the opening move and the corresponding piece can land on an empty square or on an enemy occupied provided that the piece can capture the opponents. The World Chess Federation has the task of maintaining the games rules and regulations.

The Elating Adventure Board Game Dungeon

There are board games that allow individual player to portray or guide a special character that increases its abilities and characteristics or even gain gears as the game continues like the adventure board games. The very first adventure board game was Dungeon released in 1975 and was designed by Steve Winter, S. Schwab, David R. Megarry, and Gary Gygax. The game designed for two to four players consists of a rulebook, four colored Parcheesi-style playing pieces (white, blue, green, and red). An interesting part of the game set are the variety of treasures and monster cards design with black and white on one side while on the other side are different colors displaying the six different dungeon levels with increasing difficulty: first is gold, second is orange, third is red, fourth is magenta, fifth is green, and sixth is blue. The game is played with every players goal to defeat the monsters and collect as much treasures as possible back to the dungeon entrance. The most recent version of the game is the Dungeon and Dragons.

Aiding in Cooperative Board Games

Games that encourage players to go for certain objectives such as to go against some players or against the game itself are classified as cooperative board games. These games emphasizes on team cooperation, which means winning or losing as a team, rather than individual competition. The events in the game come at random when the game advances making it more challenging for the players. In the 1980s Scotland Yard was among the first games published. This game where players are portrayed as detectives, cooperate to track down another player depicting as a criminal in the streets of London. Another game produced in the 1980s is the Arkham Horror where players are depicted as investigators cooperating to defend the town of Arkham from monsters and aliens who enter through the gates and also to shut the gates. In 2000 other cooperative board games have been published like The Lord of the Rings, Shadows over Camelot, and Pandemic.
