A Brief Explanation About Satellite TV
It was only as recently as in 1962 that the Telstar satellite relayed its first satellite TV signals from Europe to the entire North American region. Later, Intelsa, or Early Bird as it was also known as, became the first among commercial satellites to be launched and it was the precursor to the ones that so dominate the world today. In the year 1967 the Soviet Union created its national network of satellite television that was known as Orbitra and the rest as they say is history.
Different Types Satellite TV receives signals via the satellite that communicates with a transmitting antenna located at a ground based uplink facility. Such uplink dishes are very large in size and typically measure about nine to twelve meters. Furthermore there are three distinct types of satellite TV usage: reception that is received directly by viewers; reception received by affiliates of local television operators and reception received by what are known as headends from which the signals are distributed across earth based cable systems. In the case of reception received directly by viewers there are two different types to choose from including direct broadcast satellite (DBS) and television receive-only (TVRO) and now-a-days the former is being preferred by home satellite TV viewers as well as by businesses like hotels and offices. The DBS or Direct to Home satellite television has only just been introduced and is different from the TVRO option that has been in use from the very earliest days of satellite TV reception. At present, the majority of home television viewers are getting their satellite TV programs through DBS and the main providers in this regard include DISH TV, a direct-to-home platform. In this form of satellite TV reception the providers choose the programs and then broadcast these to the subscriber that pays for a packaged set of programs. If the provider is able to get enough good channels to the customer's satellite TV then they will not only be able to compete with cable television but can take away the business from cable television operators. Because the satellite TV channels are received in digital format the quality of picture and sound are better than what is available from most cable television operators and this is what makes viewers shift to DBS. Furthermore, satellite TV providers get their programs from two main sources: International turnaround channels of which good examples are ESPN and HBO as well as CNN; and they can also get the programs from local channels. Together, the turnaround channels and local channels are sold as a package that viewers can pick and choose from. Satellite TV systems are revolutionizing the way that people enjoy their television programs. The way that viewers get to access their channels has changed and this has led to more people switching over from cable television to satellite TV.
