Cannabis plants have not only been used throughout the ages for the psychoactive
effects obtained from growing marijuana outdoors but also this versatile species has had a very elaborate standing in human agriculture for literally thousands of years. An acre of hemp produced more cellulose than an acre of trees. Hemp fibre made the ropes that lifted up the tough hemp canvas cloth used to make the sails of the ancient Phoenician, Greek, and Roman navies. Further findings have cited that hemp production was going on in north eastern Asia around 600BC and was introduced into the U.S by the first settlers. Until the late 1800's almost all of the world's paper was made from hemp, and even today many bank notes are printed on cannabis paper. Most of our great art works hanging in the worlds art galleries are painted on canvas.
