Plainly speaking, a conveyor belt is nothing but a continuous loop of material which usually consists of two or more pulleys. One of them is powered which makes the belt to move and drive it forward. Conveyor belts are used mainly to transport or carry goods from one place to another. In general handling, these are mainly used in grocery stores, airport, factories, bulk material handling establishments etc. these comprise of one or more layer of rubber. The objects are put into the sheets and with help of power generated, it moves, along with the object.

Usually, there are several layers which are found in a conveyor belt. The uppermost layer is made of rubber. Such belts generally have two layers. An under layer of the material provides linear strength and shape. This is known as carcass and an outer layer is called the cover. The materials which are used to make the carcass are either cotton or plastic web and mesh. Covers can also be made from several other materials as well. These include silicone and gum rubber. Both of these are used mainly due to it properties, supporting the conditions, as and when required.

Belt conveyors are the most commonly used powered conveyors. They are widely popular mainly due to their versatility and cost effectiveness. The products are put on the belt which in turn travels through the conveyor. Irrespective of the shape, size and weight of the products, conveyor belts can take anything on the. Almost everything gets transported quite easily. Belt conveyors have considerably rendered the task of carrying luggage significantly easier. Adding another feather of this age of advanced technology, conveyor belts came off as an added advantage.
