A Bt Digital I-plate Can Dramatically Improve Your Broadband Speeds
The majority of households throughout the UK now benefit from having high speed broadband available in their home
. However, many people still struggle to reach the connection speeds that they should and it is possible that this could be due to interference from the presence of telephone extension wiring in your home that picks up electrical noise from TVs, lights and other electrical equipment. With a digital I-Plate this interference can be greatly reduced, helping to dramatically boost your connection speeds.
It is important to make some simple checks before purchasing an I-Plate. If your existing socket has a BT Openreach logo on it then there is already a built-in filter inside and if there is no horizontal line across the front then it will not be possible to fit a filter. In addition, those sockets that have two connection points, one for telephone and DSL, will not be able to fit a filter like the I-Plate.
If your home does have a telephone extension wiring, even if this is not currently in use, then your broadband connection could be greatly improved with a simple filter like the I-Plate. In fact, research shows that line speeds will be boosted by typically 1.5MBps, although the actual figures will vary from home to home. The filter is very low cost and easy to fit so it is worthwhile investigating whether it could work in your property.
Another important filter is the microfilter or ADSL filter that splits your telephone and DSL sockets to prevent broadband and voice signals from interfering with one another when in use. Again this is a very low cost device to purchase. The ADSL filter looks like an adaptor with two sockets that means a telephone device can be attached on one side and a router on the other. It is advisable to use an ADSL filter in addition to an I-Plate filter in order to boost connection speeds and minimise interference.
If you are unable to fit a filter to your socket for any of the above reasons mentioned then you can still take measures to reduce interference by connecting the router to the master socket where the telephone line enters the property. Where possible try to connect devices wirelessly to avoid the use of telephone extension cables that pick up electrical interference and if you do need to use an extension cable then choose a brand new and good quality cable of the shortest length possible.
