A Closer Look At Drug Rehabs
When you pay for drug rehab services, what are you really paying for? Paying for treatment can seems like a strange idea to some but today is one of the only ways to get into a program that will stop addiction. However if you are spending your well earned money for treatment, what are you getting for the price and what results should you expect? The first thing that should be looked at here is the type of treatment provided and the time in rehab.
Drug rehabs use different brands of therapies. Some specialize in short term rehab lasting two weeks or so while others do long term treatment which typically lasts 30 days to as long as a year. There are other programs which are classified as Therapeutic Community or 12 Step Program. There are even programs that offer out or inpatient care plus psychiatric or medical based programs. Paying up to $1,000 per day for medical detox is not unusual but for those only doing medical detox, or those doing it that it is medically necessary for, they may be using their entire rehab budget just to detox. What about handling the mental and emotional aspects of addiction or a more thorough physical handling?
There are also drug rehabs out there that will charge up to $60,000.00 for only 30 days of care. Some of these programs do not have the highest success rate out there for sobriety so again a person may be spending their entire budget and more for no result. According to government statistics programs providing long term treatment usually achieve the best results. Facilities lasting three months or longer give the individual time to really handle all areas of addiction.
For a program like this a person is still looking at paying money but may be able to get in for something like $300.00 a day. When you really look at it this is the cost of a nice hotel room and is a price for full rehab care, housing, and even food for those addicted to drugs and alcohol. Another avenue that some programs take is giving medications or substitute drugs to patients. A client may have to pay for a few weeks of treatment but then is strapped with the cost of prescriptions for what could be the rest of his life. Not to mention the side effects of the drugs prescribed and their addictive qualities.
When checking out drug rehabs, expect to pay something, even if it's just an entry fee but make sure you look at success rate, accreditation, pictures of the facility and staff qualifications before sending your loved one to treatment.
