A Couple Handy Techniques On How To Straighten Your Hair
It goes without saying; people with curly hair want straight hair and people with straight hair want curly
. It is a never ending battle and because Hollywood seems to dictate the latest trends, when straight hair is in, everyone is trying to figure out how to get their curly locks straight. And, even those with straight hair are looking to make their even straighter. Here are a few tips to help on how to straighten your hair.
Gone are the days of laying the head on the ironing board while your friend ironed, and ultimately, damaged your hair to give it that straight look. Today there are products and methods much healthier for your hair; it just takes the right products and equipment. You'll need a hair dryer or a flat iron along with hair clips, round brush, and a comb. Also, you may want to use gel, hairspray, mousse or similar products for hairstyling.
Preparing the hair is needed before starting whether it will be dry or damp to start with. Clipping hair into sections makes it easier to work with. For those using a flat iron, unless it is designed to work on dry and wet hair, hair needs to be completely dry before starting.
Blow drying hair straight is a popular method and needs to be done one section at a time. When doing it this way, the nozzle of the dryer needs to face down and move with the brush or the comb in a downward motion. This downward movement not only straightens hair, but seals hair, keeping it from frizzing. Each section must be completely dry and straight before going on to the next section. When all is done, set the hair dryer to cool to help lock the cuticle into place and add a bit of styling products like hairspray if necessary.
If blow drying just doesn't work for you, a flat iron can do the job and in some cases better. Clipping the hair into sections can help this go easier so you can focus on one strip at a time. Keep the sections one or two inches wide and about a half inch thick. Any bigger and the results will not be what you are looking for. You may need to go over a section a few times till it is perfectly straight. Normally, when hair is straightened with a flat iron, it can last a few days, making it easy to care for.
If time is an issue or you have very curly hair, professional straightening may be needed. Professionals use chemicals and this method can normally last several weeks to months, depending on what is done. Relaxers relax the curl and a very strong chemical is used to do that. Other methods are the Japanese and Brazilian. The Japanese method uses thermal reconditioning, breaking down hair with a chemical and ironing it straight. The Brazilian is similar without the caustic chemicals and a hotter iron.
When straight hair is the latest fashion, it can be challenging for those with lovely locks to follow the trend. These handy tips can help even the curliest head keep up with the latest trend and look great. All it takes for most people is a hair drying or a flat iron, for that hard to straighten curl, professional help comes in a variety of methods to choose from.
