Hair Loss Treatment Options for Men
Millions of men go bald each year
Millions of men go bald each year. Statistics suggest that up to 25% of men have begun to go bald by the age of 30 and as many as 50% are affected by some level of balding by the age of 50.
Whilst some men accept this as a natural part of aging and don't mind it too much, others find that losing their hair diminishes their self-confidence and makes them unhappy with the way that they look.
For men who are losing their hair, there are hair loss treatment options.
Hair transplant
A
hair transplant is a permanent procedure that can be carried out on an outpatient basis. Male pattern baldness means that hair is lost from the top and front of the head but continues to grow on the back and sides. With a hair transplant, hair can be grafted from a place where it still grows (and will grow permanently) to a bald area. Once the hair has been transplanted it will continue to grow as normal and can be treated like the rest of the hair.
Micro Scalp Pigmentation
Micro Scalp Pigmentation is an excellent option for those who can't have or don't want a hair transplant, and also for covering up any scars on the scalp.
Micro Scalp Pigmentation is a highly sophisticated method of tattooing. When carried out by an expert, it can give the appearance that you have very short, close cropped hair.
A variety of pigments and needle sizes are used to give a very natural appearance.
Alternative hair loss treatments
Mesotherapy: Mesotherapy is a series of scalp injections which contain vitamins, minerals and DHT blockers. These injections are given once a month over a 12-month period and can prevent further hair loss from the scalp.
Minoxidil solution: Minoxidil solution is a drug which relaxes muscle cells in the blood. It is applied directly to the scalp and can promote hair growth.
Finasteride: Finasteride blocks DHT from testosterone, which is thought to cause male baldness. In some users it has been found to stop hair loss and others have reported a degree of hair regrowth.
Wigs: Wigs are another alternative to male hair loss and systems are now far more sophisticated that they used to be. However, wigs and hairpieces can be expensive to maintain and some men don't feel entirely comfortable wearing them.
Low Laser Light Therapy: Low Laser Light Therapy can stimulate blood flow to the scalp. Many say, though, that there is not enough evidence to say that this can promote hair growth and many clinics etc. no longer offer this as a hair loss treatment.
