and used by Shakespeare himself lies the modern day tribute to the greatest of all bards whose timeless words echo through the ages. Opened in 1996, the wood and thatch structure has been accurately constructed employing building techniques that were used nearly 400 years ago during Shakespeare's time. The pet project of American director and actor Sam Wanamaker the 16th century playhouse is a larger than life replica of the premises in which Shakespeare wrote and staged his works. As an attraction that provides both entertainment and education on the Elizabethan age and its theatrical performances, the venue plays hosts to Shakespearean dramas from April to October each year.

Located in Southwark, visitors can tour the Globe and explore a myriad of exhibits that deal with the behind-the-scenes aspects of Shakespeare's work and theatrical performances. The highlights include the Costumes exhibit which displays an impressive and vibrant costume collection and explores the role that costuming plays in a theatre production. This section explains the details of designing, sewing and fitting apparels for the stage while visitors can also witness the intricacies that go into transforming an ordinary actor to a Shakespearean hero in a live demonstration.

Guests can also examine the role of background music and song in such a production as a variety of quirky and amusing renaissance instruments are displayed in the Music section. Visitors can compose their own melodies and sound effects using the strange instruments while the Special Effect exhibit deals with other aspects of theatrical effects such as the manufacturing of fake blood, making actors airborne and creating thunder inside an auditorium.

The true-to- life reconstruction of a 17th-century printing press is also housed within the complex to give visitors an idea of the role of the printing press in bringing Shakespeare's words to the masses. The complicated details and special challenges of constructing the Globe itself are also demonstrated in a region of the complex with the use of artefacts, visual panels and commentaries.
