A Harrowing Tale Of Office Relocation

Who says you can't make office relocation into an interesting story? My colleague Milton, that's who. Well I'm going to show him, by writing our recent office move in the style of a novel. Wish me luck!

It was a grey, depressed day, only tiny slivers of sunlight peeked through clouds to bless us with a glimmer of light, though few offered any true comfort. For today was the day of moving our offices, one day before our lease was up. It was now or never.

The workforce assembled in refreshingly informal attire, some wearing neat polo-shirts, others clad in loose-fitting t-shirts. We all knew that today was going to be a difficult day - anyone who has ever moved office or house can attest to that.

The moving truck arrived, albeit 5 minutes late, and from it emerged a middle-aged man with short facial stubble and neat hair. He had a beak nose and intense eyes - he never introduced himself, simply asking "OK, is this all the stuff?"

We had brought all the moveable furniture from the second floor to the outside of the building, neatly stacking it and arranging it so as not to block any part of the road or drop them in any puddles. There were about 24 chairs and tables stood on the pavement, whilst all our hardware - computers, monitors and a server, had been carefully packaged to avoid damage.

We began to load the items on the lorry in the way of a conveyor belt, reminiscent of the seven dwarves, though we didn't have a Dopey (thankfully, though Milton often has shades of him).

Afterwards, we packed ourselves into cars and followed the truck like a convoy of office workers, reaching the destination in the nearby Harrow office in just under 30 minutes. After inspecting the new office and everyone agreeing that it would be ideal, we all (including the driver) unloaded the vehicle.

Mercifully we were moving to a ground floor office, so the final move was simple and soon enough we had all of our furniture and equipment lying on the floor of the new location.

Office relocation can be a nightmare for some companies, but for our company it was simple enough
