Whatever your reason for travelling, you can find a travel tour that meets that need
. If you like to climb mountains or taste wine, or if you would rather help the less fortunate by volunteering, there is a vacation tour that will suit you. The tour people will handle the details once you get there, but you have to do the advance preparation yourself.
The first thing to decide upon is where you want to go. Let your imagination run wild here and think about the possibilities. Do you want to stay in one spot and know it intimately, or do you want to travel all through a region
and see a lot?
What do you enjoy doing? Do you like water sports, prefer photography, or like to poke around old towns? Define your interests and you will find a tour that suits them.
The next step is to determine the amount of time you can spend on the tour and when you can go. There are some tours that only operate in certain seasons, so if your vacation time is limited to the summer or the winter, you will be limited. You also have to decide if you can spend a week or two, or only a few days on the tour.
How about your pace? Some people prefer the rush and think that life is short, we have to fit as much in as possible, while others want to leisurely explore a region be it Alaska or
Gandia in Spain. There are benefits to each so it depends on your personality.
Who will you want to travel with? A single independent traveller will have more freedom and flexibility than a family travelling with five children. These factors will have a big impact on your vacation plans, since you want everyone in your party (even if it is just you) to be happy on vacation. Of course, you have to take into account the various costs involved, such as airfare and other transportation, food, and lodging in addition to the price of the tour. Other incidental expenses, such as taxes, tips and souvenirs should be considered as well.
A next decision that has to be made is whether you prefer to be on a group tour or go independently, or if you want to be in a small or large group, if you want to be with a certain age or demographic group, such as seniors, singles or all women. If you prefer independence and freedom, you may decide to design a self-guided tour.
A critical point that many people do not consider is the level of comfort they need on a trip. If you are not the type to stay in a tent or a hut, an adventure tour may not be for you. Picky eaters have to realize the type of food available may not be to their tastes and if you have real limitations such as a special diet for health or religiuos reasons, a tour may not be at all workable.
The final decision is whether you are up to the tour. Many wonderful tours, such as visiting asrams in India, hiking the Swiss Alps or surfing in Australia require a certain level of strength and fitness, and if you have to drop out because you become exhausted, you will have wasted a lot of money.
After you've examined all of these factors, you can start to do exhaustive research on the type of tour that interests you. This can be one of the greatest vacations of your lifetime if you choose it well.
