What is Oxycontin?
A drug that is more difficult to quit than to pronounce! Oxycontin is a pain killer that is now more known for killing people, than pain. Oxycontin is a Opioid Analgesic Medication. It is derived from the well known 'opium'. It was invented with an intention to replace highly addictive 'morphine' and 'heroin' but turned out to be a worser addiction.
History of Oxycontin :
Oxycontin is the brand of Purdue Pharmaceuticals which has the compound, chemically called oxycodone. It was primarily developed to replace the highly addictive drugs morphine and heroin. Initially tests proved that oxycontin was successful in curing the pain of the patients as it was not having immediate response and took 12 hours to release the pill in the body. The manufacturer had to go through severe legal allegations and face law suits when the patients slowly started getting addicted to the oxycontin overdose .The patients eventually started taking the pills as an addiction rather than medication.
Effects and ill effects of Oxycontin:
When the drug was used for medical reasons, it showed fairly good results and starting replacing the highly addictive morphine and heroin. Later, the addictiveness of Oxycontin overdose became a serious issue for the patients that had recovered from pain. People tried various legal and illegal methods to obtain the drug. The key ill effects of oxycontin are the depression and discomfort which patients feel after being through the 'euphorian high'.
New sticky formula, No use!
Purdue Pharmaceuticals came up with a new version of oxycontin which was sticky and untampered. This stopped people from crushing the tablets and having the oxycontin overdose directly in the blood. This made the impact of the addiction slow and it seemed that the conditions were under control. But to everyone's surprise, few reports proved that people started resorting back to morphine and heroin.
