A Little Insight Into the FX Sharp Cell Phone
AT&T's 'Sharp' by FX is yet another messaging phone for the nation's largest 3G network
. It closely resembles the Sidekick of yesteryear, but in a much smaller package. Also, it sports FX's ability to snag live TV and put it inside this machine.
This phone was modeled after Motorola's Sidekick Slide and Sharp's Sidekick, but loses the cool flip action you get from Sharp's SK and instead was replaced with a slide-up screen revealing the QWERTY keyboard underneath. Let's review the ups and downs of this phone.
Let's talk size for a minute. The length and width might be all fine and dandy, however the depth that FX went with makes it bulky to carry around. It sports a sleek black paint job, which, while it feels smooth in your hand, doesn't take away from the girth of this phone. As well as the girth of this beast (so-to-speak), it doesn't help much that there are loose parts, which doesn't give a buyer much confidence in the durability of the product. Loose parts include things such as the top half of the phone.
There are three buttons on the front display of the phone: Send, Back/Menu and End/Power, all are below the screen. They're also all elevated from the surface of the phone, making it a no-brainer to locate them if needed. The left side of the phone sports amicroUSB port, volume toggle switch and a 3.5mm headphone jack (which is always nice to have). The volume switch is good and responsive and the USB isn't known to present issues.
On the right of this phone you have your Lock button as well as the Camera button, both of which provide excellent feedback. Finding the keyboard is so easy a caveman can do it, to put it plainly. Slide up the top half of the phone and there it is, tucked in between two shoulders (which, depending on your texting "style" or thumb size or both, may be of some annoyance to you). The keyboard itselfis comprised of four rows, and thrown in there with the regular keys is a dedicated key for "www," ".com," the period and the comma.
The touch screen on the phone islaggy and the crammed menus can be an irritation to most people, so that's something to be weary of. The call quality is also less than excellent, so that is something to be aware of when looking at this device. With the thick black border that surrounds the 3-inch touch-screen it makes the display seem smaller than it actually is, so don't be fooled by the looks.
Something that may turn you off is that themicroSD slot is wrongly placed under the battery cover, though not actually under the battery itself. The back of the phone is sleek and simple, with nothing but the camera lense.
