A Logo Without Your Name... Can Be A Big Branding Pain
Your company logo says a lot about your business. It reflects your vision, mission, and goals and helps people remember you easier. Having a logo designed is a good investment and there are actually three types of logos to choose from, namely text logos, symbol logos, and combination logos. Each type of logo has its own advantages and disadvantages and several factors need to be considered before choosing which logo type to go for.
When it comes to symbol logos, these aren't usually suitable for small businesses and for businesses that are only starting out. Symbol logos contain only images and icons without any text. While a symbol logo can seem like an appealing choice to business owners, such logos may not be all that as one may think. For one thing, the process of making a symbol logo is not only more expensive but more complicated as well. Since there are no words to help consumers understand the nature of the business, the logo itself should be able to have meaning and explain the business. It also doesn't help that most shapes are already used by major companies. You can't just use any shape as the symbol logo has to communicate to consumers what your business is and why you exist. Using any shape will only cause confusion among consumers and you risk losing potential clients.
If you go for a symbol logo, be prepared to face a few obstacles that may come your way. One thing you have to keep in mind is that symbol logos are often the subject of trademark violations. Even a slight similarity of your logo with another logo can lead to rejection of your application at the Trademark Office. Another thing to keep in mind is that you will have to take the time to educate consumers about your company. This can take a lot of advertising which small businesses usually do not have the budget for. If you are not ready to handle the setbacks of using a symbol logo, then it would be best to use a text logo or a combination logo instead.
