A Look At The Bmw X-series

BMW crossover cars are collectively referred to as BMW's X Series

. The "X" stands for crossover while the number just after the X represents the series that the crossover is based on. For example, the X6 BMW crossover is based on the BMW 6-Series sedan while the BMW X3 2012 is based on the 2012 BMW 3-Series. Currently, BMW offers the following X-Series crossovers: BMW X1, BMW X3, BMW X5, BMW X6, BMW Individual X6, and used models. Here's a quick overview.

BMW X1- The BMW X1 began production in 2009 for the model year 2010 though it didn't enter the Canadian market until 2012. The X1 is currently available in two editions: xDrive28i and xDrive35i. The xDrive 28i features a four cylinder engine while the xDrive 35i has a six cylinder engine. Combined city/highway fuel consumption is 7.8 L/100km for the xDrive28i and 9.6 L/100km fir the xDrive35i. The xDrive 35i also comes with the M Sport package and chrome tailpipes.

BMW X3 The X3 has been around since its conceptual debut as the xActivity concept car in 2003. Production soon followed for model year 2004. In 2005, the BMW X3 3.0i won the Best Sports Utility Vehicle / Canadian Car of the Year. Original marketed as a "sports activity vehicle," the BMW X3 is now in its second generation. The BMW X3 2012 edition is offered with a DOHC I-6 24V four cylinder engine.

BMW X5 Dating all the way back to the last century, the BMW X5 was first made in 1999. At that time, BMW also owned Land Rover and the car shared components and technologies from the Range Rover HSE. In 2006, the second generation entered the market. In 2009, a diesel version of the X5 was introduced in Canada and the United States. The car was updated in 2011 with new bumpers and small cosmetic changes. With over a decade of production, there are plenty of used BMW X5 models for sale.

BMW X6 The X6 BMW is the largest of the X-Series family. It's marketed as a "sports activity coupe" because it blends the high ground clearance and utility of a SUV with the bold styling, stance, and dramatic look of a coupe. The X6 BMW has been in production since 2008 with numerous variants including the base X6 xDrive35i, luxurious X6 xDrive50i, two diesel variants, BMW X6 M, and BMW Concept X6 Active Hybrid. The top-of-the-line X6 BMW xDrive50i comes equipped with a powerful 8-cylinder TwinPower Turbo engine.

BMW Individual X6 Of the X-Series family, the X6 is the only one available as an "Individual" model. An Individual X6 BMW comes with exclusive colour choices, a piano black interior, leather instrument panel, anthracite roof liner, and a high end audio system.
