A Look At The Various Heating Systems

Heating systems are necessary to keep homes and businesses warm in the cooler months of the year

. There are even some areas that require their use almost year round. They are desirable not only to create a comfortable living environment, but often to sustain ones life in the cold.

forced heating system: This is by far the most common type of heating used in residences and businesses. This system heats air in a furnace and distributes it throughout a building using a network of ductwork and vents. This is most often called central heating as it comes from one central location where it is carefully controlled, and it can even be used in cooler weather for air conditioning. This heating system can be heated using electricity, gas, or even oil or propane.

While forced heating systems are difficult to install in older homes, most new developments make use of them. It can quickly and easily make a room comfortable and the temperature is easily controlled. Some complain about the level of noise involved with these heaters, but others consider it a sound of home and have grown to appreciate it for what it is. On the down side, forced heating ductwork systems can be rather expensive to maintain in the long run.

radiant heat system: This is an old style heating system that involves the use of pipes which are installed throughout a house. Hot water is forced through these pipes, and this works to warm the area. There are some major problems with this system. It cannot be used for air conditioning; it works rather slowly, and can also offer substantial difficulty when any problem occurs.

Steam heating systems: Rooms are heated by individual units known as radiators with this type of heater. Many appreciate that with steam heating you can use electricity, gas or oil. Also, these heating units are very energy efficient and can help if a household or business is working to cut costs.

At the same time, they offer challenges as they take up a lot of space, and extra care must be taken to avoid the chance of a fire. Those who are concerned with the aesthetic qualities of a room will not appreciate the tackiness of such a large unit. Steam heater radiators are best used in areas that have a lot of space and little furniture, fabric, or other cloth items to cause a fire hazard.

Geothermal: Modern developments in technology have brought about the geothermal heater. Highly expensive to install, but efficient in the long run, many claim them to be quite cost efficient. Geothermal heaters make use of the energy from the earth and can be implemented for both heating and air.

space heaters: These can save money and gas on ones energy bills as it efficiently heats only a small desired area. They come in many different sizes and price points. The real problem with these heaters is that they have been recognized as a serious fire hazard if one is not extremely careful. They should never be used unattended, and those who use it should take care to keep small children and pets away so that they are not burned. They are also not designed for large areas or entire homes. If one lives alone or in a small apartment, this may be a great choice.
