15th of July 1988, one day after finishing university, Dexter and Emma will end up in bed. She asserts that nothing truly occurred, Dexter will argue that some thing does indeed occur, even though he will wait for Emma to go to sleep so slowly crawl out of bed, and her life.

But that night something happened, it is possible, though not guaranteed - the discussion happened. A kind of discussions right after you realize that nothing in everyday life would be the same and that with the guy facing you (or even the woman in front of you) you revealed your soul.

Dex is not ashamed of Emma within the many years that will follow, in Eighties and Nineties, and through those many years he'll be well aware which Emma is the most precious human being he ever come across.

She, however, is going to be anxiously wandering for a long time: perform along with obscure theatre crew, reside in inexpensive resorts, leave Birmingham, just to work in the stinking Asian cafe, have a romance with a stand-up comic who's painfully not really humorous, but definitely charming, to start work in high school, get involved with one married school principal...

For 20 years, both of these people, two good friends, 1 bit of the same soul, meet every year Fifteenth July (and sometimes in between). Emma will end up happier with time and Dex wiser. With out women, booze, illegal substances, sloppy excuses ... and the love which threatened with cliches may develop into a racial life story regarding two people that are truly for each other.
