A Quick Look At Cabo San Lucas
Like a beacon pointing out toward the Pacific Ocean
, the City of Cabo San Lucas (on the southern tip of Mexico's Baja California Sur), shines like a star. This area is also known as the Golden Corridor (Los Cabos Corridor) and is a highly popular spot for US-expats, timeshare owners, and other vacationers. Home to the famous El Arco de Cabo San Lucas, the region is a top site for scuba divers from around the world, and its beaches are a real treat. The famous arch, which appeals to more than just tourists, has been featured in quite a number of films, including Pirates of the Caribbean.
Only during 19th century, was the Cabo San Lucas region discovered by people of European heritage; even though the area had been inhabited by humans for at least ten thousand years.. Only after the turn of the 20th century did American business make its mark in Cabo, even though there is evidence that Thomas Ritchie (Tom Ritchie) came to the peninsula in 1828. The modern history of the area started with the construction of a platform for catching tuna, which was built by Compania de Productos Marinos, and this attracted more business into the area.
Tourism is the prime industry in the area, even if Cabo's humble beginnings sprang up from seafood industry. As stated, the fabulous beaches are grand enough to satisfy one's senses over the course of several vacations. Deep sea fishing is one thing but another is the scuba diving! Cabo San Lucas is home to the largest marlin tournament in the world, a huge draw for avid fishers the world over. Whale watching can also be a fruitful pastime, as pods of grey, humpback and orca whales often bear their young in the Gulf of California.
Cabo is a Mexican state, even if it feels American due to the influx of tourists, but lovely natural attractions still abound for travelers to enjoy. Head inland ( away from the Golden Corridor) to explore the Sierra de la Laguna pine-oak forests, the Sierra de la Laguna dry forest, the Sierra xeric shrubs. Of course the draw of the sea is always intoxicating, so just head to a beach away from the trampled path, there are dozens to choose from! Cabo San Lucas isn't just for retirees and partiers. Don't stay away just to avoid nightclubs, because a plethora of natural beauty abounds! Many hours can be whiled away with beach activities, boat tours, water sports, and by participating in local events..
