The eligibility criterion for studying in any engineering college in Orissa is 10+2 in the science stream with mathematics as one of the subject combinations. Aspiring candidates have to appear for joint entrance examination, which is conducted by OJEE (Orissa Joint entrance examination) committee every year. Based on their ranks in joint entrance examination, candidates are chosen to pursue the engineering course.

Although engineering colleges are mushrooming in Orissa, the standard of education is not compromised. Most reputed institutions are AICTE approved and now National Board of Accreditation (NBA) has started the point system in many institutions.
