A Review of the New Nokia C7
The Nokia C7 is the second handset from the company running on the new version 3.0 Symbian operating system. Coupled with a faster processer, an improved display and a more comprehensive software package, this new handset could well be destined for greatness.
Upon close inspection of the C7's design, the first thing that strikes you is just how sleek the phone is. The 16:9 screen ratio makes the handset slightly narrower than other models with comparable 3.5" screens. The 10.5mm of depth is also pleasingly slim, and in the hand the phone sits nicely and is easy to control single handed. The phone looks great with its curved edges, and also looks high end thanks to the extensive use of stainless steel used in its construction. The other benefit of this material is the robustness that it gives the phone, and this is a big factor in these days of ever increasing contract lengths. The screen on the C7 boasts a very high quality 360 x 640 resolution, resulting in a high quality of image, whether it is from a detailed web page or from your own media recordings. Being AMOLED quality, the user benefits from a natural deep colour tone, aided by Nokias own "Clear Black" technology which comprises of a special layer fitted to the screen which improves visibility in sunlight and further enhances colours. An accelerometer chip is fitted to perform auto rotate function, so when the phone is held on its side, the user can view widescreen 16:9 images, especially useful for the viewing of movie footage.
Using the Nokia C7 is a very pleasing experience. The 680Mhz processor keeps things moving along at a good pace, and handles the phones excellent multi-tasking features easily. The operating system is third generation Symbian, and this seems a big improvement on previous offerings. The home screen comprises of three screens, each customisable with up to six widgets or 24 applications. The OS is well geared up for social networking, and the Social Live widgets collaborates all of your Facebook and Twitter information in one location, as well as synchronising your account with your phonebook. Up to 8GB of internal storage space is available on the C7, which your average phone user will find ample, but for those wishing to utilise the excellent media features to their full extent, including the great HD video capture, a micro SD slot is a welcome addition. This allows additional memory up to 32GB to be added.
The Nokia C7 has done a superb job of integrating a high quality screen with the improved operating system. Throw into the equation the superb media and software bundle and the result is a stylish phone destined to snap up a chunk of the growing Android market.
The Nokia C7 and the Nokia N8 are available now.
