A Simple Means Of Improving Energy Efficiency In Industrial Environments
Energy efficiency is rapidly becoming one of the most important issues confronting businesses today
, particularly for those organisations in the manufacturing sector. Not only does a reduction in energy consumption reflect positively on profits but it also has a powerful impact upon a company's carbon footprint.
There are numerous processes and pieces of equipment which can be utilised to aid in the improvement of energy efficiency. Unfortunately, the cost of specialist equipment to minimise energy wastage can often be prohibitive, and consequently, cheaper, less effective options are opted for. Thankfully, when it comes to minimising heat loss this is not necessarily the case.
In a great number of manufacturing and storage environments it is imperative that specific temperatures are maintained. Whether this be to prevent perishable goods from spoiling or to ensure a manufacturing process operates at optimum efficiency, in the majority of cases the same applies: fluctuations in temperature result in increased energy bills as heating or cooling systems need to work outside of their most efficient parameters to reinstate the optimum temperature. The opening and closing of doors into these areas is a particularly troublesome factor with regard to maintaining a constant, due to the displacement and movement of air from one room to another. However well insulated a door may be, on a walk 'in refrigerator for instance, when opened the benefit of this insulation is lost. This is even more of an issue if the door is often left open for prolonged periods of time due to the loading and unloading of produce or human error.
In order to reduce these temperature fluctuations one very simple and extremely cost effective solution can be implemented: the installation of PVC strip curtains. Not only do strip curtains allow a constant temperature to be easily maintained when there is a high level of pedestrian or motorised traffic but also act as a barrier to airborne contaminants and all without requiring any energy source and minimal maintenance.
It is a given that many industrial processes are by their very nature likely to impact upon the environment, it is however the duty of the companies responsible to ensure that this impact is kept to an absolute minimum. By the utilisation of such measures as the installation of PVC strip curtains, energy wastage can be noticeably reduced and in conjunction with other such seemingly small steps towards energy efficiency massive leaps can be made in lowering overheads and preserving our planet.
