A Simple Way To Water Your Orchids
Today let us talk about watering your Pahelaenopsis Orchids
. Did you know that Phalaenopsis Orchids are probably the most popular type of orchid that is kept by people in their homes today? This is the reason why I would like to talk about the correct and proper way to water these beautiful flowers.
Two secret tips for you before we begin watering.
1. Use luke warm water 2. Water during the daytime hours
Watering the Phalaenopsis Orchid is really fairly easy. Now, here is the secret. The Phalaenopsis orchid doesn't want to be sitting in the water when you water it. I like using the recommended 1/4 strength of Orchid food in the watering container for my orchid water. I usually use a 1 gallon jug for watering my orchids. I mix the food with the water in the container. Once it has been mixed I then pour the mixture into the pot the orchid is planted in two times. Let the water drain completely through it as you hold the orchid above your sink. Now, water it again letting all the water drain through a second time. Make sure that you have allowed it to fully drain before you place it back in its decorative container.
When watering your Phalaenopsis make sure to not get the growing crown of he plant wet. The growing crown of the Phalaenopsis Orchid is the part which is just above the soil where the seperation of the leaves takes place. Usually, within the first 2-3 inches.
Again, once the water is fully drained I put the pot back into its container and that is it! Pretty simple isn't it?
So, you are going to water the Phalaenopsis about every 7-10 days, or it will be as needed. I've mentioned this in other orchidinformationsecrets articles. The reason it is as needed is because in some homes have a little more humidity while other homes are a little bit drier. You really want to check to verify that the orchid really does need water. You'll do this by checking the medium (soil) using your finger. You'll want to dig into the soil to about the first joint of your finger. If the soil that your orchid is planted in feels dry, then it needs water. If the soil feels really damp, then it doesn't need water.
The Phalaenopsis Orchid doesn't want to dry out completely nor does it want to sit in very moist medium. They like having a bit of moisture most of the time.
If you follow these super simple yet secret steps, your orchids will be very happy and they will actually start to rebloom. Your orchids will thrive for years to come!
