A Time to Talk and a Time to Be Quiet - The Little Prince Series
When we live in our mind and emotions, we tend to keep going over and over the same issues in conversation with those we are close to.
We recount the latest thing she or he did, analyzing it from every angle. "What did they mean by that?"
Coming from this state of mind, the drama never ends.
I used to feel a need to talkeverything over with friends, combing events and situations for any detail that might shed light on what the person "really" meant by what they said or did.
Now, I don't talk about these things anymore. I have no need to on two counts.
First, I have no interest in drama. It's boring. The same-old, same-old. Though the content may change from problem to problem, the essence remains the same: it's all rooted in the ego and its flip side the pain-body.
Second, little drama arises anymore, whereas my life used to be pretty much made up of drama. If any does arise, I quickly see it for what it is.
Eckhart Tolle has said that there aren't "problems" in life, just situations. Each is dealt with as it arises, in the moment, without a lot of pre-thought or retroactive analysis.
So now it's possible to really talkwith people instead of each talkingat the other.
The content is fresh, relevant, pertaining to real life, not the drama of the head and emotions.
How often we misuse our friends, going endlessly back and forth through the incidents of the latest drama in our life. It's not possible to have an authentic relationship, let alone real intimacy, when we are sharing from ego and the pain-body instead of from the presence of our authentic being.
In the story of The Little Prince, the boy who has grown up to be a pilot finds he can't have a real conversation with people. There isn't a point of authentic contact when people are skating over the surface of life.
The consequence is that the pilot spends much of his time alone, symbolized by flying alone, way over most people's heads.
When editing Ivan Rados' bookHealth: It's All About Consciousness, something he said about conversation resonated with me. It's an incredibly insightful little book.
From being a person who had to talk about all my supposed "problems" and disappointments, I had become amazingly quiet. Ivan explains:
When the throat chakra is flowing with spinning, purified energy, everything we express conveys pure ecstasy and joy. So when love is present in the heart chakra, and the throat chakra is clear, we're in a good place to speak. But if we aren't experiencing love at a particular moment and our throat chakra isn't clear, our words will lack purity and we should therefore keep quiet. If there's no love in our fourth chakra, there will be no truth in our fifth chakra. But when we honestly share our heart through the throat chakra, anything we say transmits compassion.
Not only does conversation that originates in the ego or its flip side the pain-body negatively affect others, it also affects us and can even damage our health. As Ivan explains:
It's important to realize that our heartfelt communication not only goes outward into the world but also deep down into the cells within our own body.
We do ourselves harm when we talk on and on about stuff that pertains to the false self, with its ego and pain-body. The pilot was wise to opt for aloneness instead of meaningless conversation just to fill the silence.
To be able to be alone and enjoy our company is immensely rewarding, as we shall begin to see tomorrow. It's the only basis forauthentically relating to another person.
