Take for example Tarifa; a small town of the province of Andalusia. It is one of the most beautiful places and it is filled with many historical places which would be of interest for every tourist. Let us take a look at some of the interesting places in Tarifa.
Beach:
The beach of Tarifa is among popular beaches of Andalusia. It is popular for its natural beauty as well as it is among the few beaches which are most ideal for wind surfing and kite surfing. Some of the surfing events are held here. The strong wind in the beach has made this place most ideal for these games. The wind turbines are another unique aspect of this beach which helps to play these games. Apart from this, there are many other water sports facilities available.
Guzman castle:
This castle is believed to have been built by Caliph Abd-ar-Ramnan III in the year 960. The castle is very near to the port. During the 13th century a tower called as Guzman el Bueno tower was added to this castle. The tower was intended as an observatory; to monitor the movement of enemies and pirates etc. In the later years, a church by the name Church of St. Mary was built on the existing mosque.
Medieval walls:
As the very name suggest, these walls are believed to have been built in the medieval period. The wall has three gates and of the three gates, now only one gate could be preserved. This gate is called as the Puerta de Jerez. According to historians the wall was built in the 13th century.
St. Matthew Church:
This a beautiful structure built in traditional Gothic architecture. This church is believed to have been built over a mosque. It is believed to have been built in the 16th century. In later years, the faade of the church was rebuilt. This masterpiece structure should never be missed.
Romans city:
The city of Tarifa was under the influence of Romans for quite some time. After the fall of the Roman Empire, the city witnessed many wars and destruction. Some of remnants of Roman period could be seen in the town of Baelo Claudia which is located very nearby.
