A look at the new handset from Nokia the E5
Nokia have introduced a new smartphone to their current range. The E5 is a handset with full Qwerty keypad, but is designed to the social user rather than just the business market.
The shape of the Nokia E5 takes the form of the traditional business phone, with the front of the unit fairly equally split between screen and keypad. The screen itself measures 2.36 inches and is a TFT display. Capable of displaying a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels in QVGA quality. The screen can process up to 256 thousand colours and also incorporates an ambient light sensor to adjust the screen according to your surroundings. The handset itself physically measures 115 x 58.9 x 12.8 mm and weighs in at a fairly standard 126 grammes. Immediately underneath the screen a five way Navi key is centrally placed, performing navigation around the screen. The key itself is very responsive and makes a nice alternative to touchscreens, especially as this unit is primarily aimed at the user likely to communicate via SMS, E MAil or Social Networking, where touchscreens are not as advantageous as in other areas. A call and end key are located either side of this button. The full Qwerty keypad comprises of four rows of buttons, which despite being small are large enough not to hinder the composition of any text.
For a handset geared towards communication, the Nokia E5 benefits from a great range of connectivity features. Access to the 3G network is supported thanks to tri band HSDPA and the 2G network is also supported via quad band GSM. For an even quicker experience, WiFi is also enabled on the E5. This allows the user to connect to their own network whilst at home or work, or connect to a public network. The advantage of this is the speediest mobile browsing experience currently available. Local connectivity is well covered to. Bluetooth version 2.0 is included for connection with compatible products and a high speed micro USB is also fitted to facilitate the vital synchronisation with a home PC. A customisable home screen allows you to add widgets for your favourite social networking sites, allowing you to be continuously updated with the status updates of friends. There is even a facility to update your own Facebook status directly from the homescreen. Messaging plays a huge part in the Nokia E5. You can receive e mail updates in real time and you have the facility to access up to ten personal e mail accounts. Several instant messaging sites are also supported so you can chat to friends or colleagues with the likes of Windows Live Messenger and Google Talk. If you are looking for a handset to handle multiple e mails and lots of SMS usage, then the Nokia E5 is the handset for you. However a comprehensive package of other features will benefit the more standard user simply looking for a phone with a full Qwerty keypad.
The Nokia E5 and the Palm Pixi are coming soon.
