ADHD Behavioral Issues - Finding Easy Solutions to Make Your Life Easier

When parents get their prescriptions for the psychostimulant drugs which are supposed to be the magic pill, they do not realize what lies ahead

. First they probably do not know that these so called wonder drugs may just mask a lot of the symptoms. But they look forward to noting improvements and less hyperactivity, better focus, improved concentration and perhaps less inattention. Well, that is just the tip of the iceberg.

The big problem is how we are going to deal with ADHD behavioral issues. There are still going to be meltdowns in the mall when we want to crawl into a hole and die. Then there will be all sorts of problems with defiant and aggressive behavior. Impulsive and reckless behavior will really test our parenting skills. Pills will never build skills. Why is life so difficult?

The other day in the shopping mall, I noticed parents threatening their children with all sorts of punishments unless they behaved. This was done always in a loud voice. I did not see anybody speaking calmly to their children. There were dire threats of consequences, physical punishments, withdrawal of privileges and so on. We are all guilty of that sort of behavior and it seems to flourish as we hit the public arena!

Threatening is bad enough but when we start yelling or shouting, then we really have descended to the child's level and we are going nowhere. The easiest solution is to explain afterwards when things have calmed down, what the problem was and how the child should behave the next time it happens.

This is just one of the things we can learn on a good child behavior modification program which will help us to deal with ADHD behavioral issues. We will be making our kids aware of their behavior and allowing them to take responsibility for it. They will also be praised and rewarded for acceptable behavior and will realize what the consequences are if their behavior is unacceptable.

We can also learn in easy steps how to put structures in place so that our children can really solve their problems without us having to bully or use violent threatening language ourselves.

This sort of behavior therapy is the only sure way to build a sound future for our kids and is probably the easiest solution and also the cheapest in the long run. If we rely solely on medication with psychostimulants, we are never even going to begin to come to grips with some of the problems above.
