About Moving In Winter

An experienced moving company is prepared to perform relocations under almost any

circumstances including the ice and snow of winter or the blistering heat of summer.. After all, you cant always choose when you move, and if that means you are moving in winter youll need a reliable moving company that knows how to cope with severe conditions.Here are some tips that can help when you are moving in intense weather situations:

What you really need to know about moving in winter

Always be prepared for the worst possible weather, if you depend on a period of calm weather an unexpected storm could prove costly. Certain items should not be transported in a moving truck during winter. Such as:

Liquids that could freeze and burst their containers (shampoo, food products, liquid laundry soap);

Houseplants, and

Lacquer finished furniture, because the finish may be damaged by exposure to extremely cold temperatures.

Consider moving these items in your own (heated) vehicle, or if thats impractical, donate them to family, friends or a local charity.

Lacquer finished furniture can be wrapped with insulating materials but you should be aware that any damage resulting from exposure to cold wont be covered by your transit protection plan. It might be worth arranging for third party transport in a temperature controlled vehicle if you own a particularly valuable item (ie a grand piano) your moving consultant will be able to recommend someone to provide this service.

Other concerns when moving during the winter are:

Dangerous driving conditions;

Road closures as a result of accidents or extreme weather, and

Snowy or icy surfaces will make loading and unloading the trucks hazardous and may cause delays.

Preparation for winter weather is critical, we dont want to battle Mother Nature; we want to outsmart her!

What you need to know about moving in summer.

Moving in summer is generally easier; roads may be busier, but driving conditions are usually better. There are more hours of daylight which contributes to safety, and the lack of snow and ice makes everything quicker and easier.

People often forget that extreme heat can present its own set of difficulties. The moving truck may become very hot inside on a sunny summer day, and some of your things may be affected by high temperatures. Belongings that might be damaged by heat include:

Houseplants (or outdoor plants for that matter);

Food products;

Things that have a low melting point (candles, crayons), and

Toiletries

If possible, transport your own plants (selling them prior to your move or giving them away are also options). Things that may melt and toiletries that may burst can be transported in your air-conditioned vehicle, or donated to local charities or friends.

So while you are planning your relocation, dont forget to plan according to the conditions you are likely to encounter. Whether you are moving in winter or moving in summer, a reliable moving company can advise you about moving in extreme conditions.
