Academic discipline is a discipline chosen to be studied or researched at the university or college level

. Usually it represents a particular branch of knowledge. Every college or university defined their own disciplines according to the academic journals where different researches are published. Then according to the academic discipline a group of its practitioners and academic faculty is formed. Any field or sphere of study or investigation is subdivided into several branches represented by sub-disciplines. The distinction features between them are usually accidental and wavering. The History of Academic Discipline Development In medieval world there existed only four main faculties for study. They were Medicine, Theology, Liberal Arts and Canon Law. Contemporary curricular years and the number of studied disciplines increased greatly. From the middle of the nineteenth century such rather new disciplines as non-classical languages, political science, literature, economics were added. Besides, as there were made a lot of discoveries in natural science and technology disciplines, engineering, biology, chemistry and physics were chosen to be studied. Academic Disciplines in the Twentieth Century During the twentieth century when the development of the whole world was very rapid, new academic sciences were needed to be studied. New level of life and social conscience demanded that psychology, sociology and education disciplines were added into the normal curriculum year plan. In the end of the twentieth century a new explosion of scientific interest was observed. There appeared rather new disciplines focusing on particular fields of knowledge or specific questions. A lot of disciplines were intended to prepare students for profession and career building. The development of Medicine led to new medical departments appearance such as hospitality management and nursing. At last, the achievements in geophysics and biochemistry increased so much that there appeared the necessity to outline specific professions in this field because the scientist contribution to this branch was great and became widely known.
