Access To Network Files Made Easy With Windows 7

Transparent Caching

Transparent Caching

Prior to Windows 7, to open a file that is stored on a server network, client computer had to take the same file again and again, even if the client computer had read the file recently. But on Windows 7, client computers cache remote files more quickly and Transparent Caching reduces the number of times the client computer accesses the same file from the server.

When user opens a file first time in a shared folder, Windows 7 stores the file in a cache on the Hard Disk of computer after reading the file from server. Now, if the user wants to read the file second or subsequent times, Windows 7 will take the file from the cache on computer"s hard disk drive. Windows 7 is always in contact with the server to make sure that the copy of the file stored in cache is up-to-date and no changes are made in that file.Access to Network file.

Transparent caching is not enabled by default on fast networks. IT professionals can use Group Policy to enable transparent caching, to improve the efficiency of the cache, and to save disk space on the client computer. They can configure the amount of disk space the cache uses and prevent specific file types from being synchronized.

Additionally, transparent caching also reduces bandwidth use across WAN network.

Direct Access

This tool is available in Windows 7 Enterprise and Windows 7 Ultimate edition. Direct Access supports the Smart Card use, Troubleshooting and User Experience.

Smart cards: Smart card does not requires the Domain Functional Mode of Windows 7. The main focus of Smart Card Management is on edge enforcement and local client enforcement. Feedback from Beta hinted that the local client enforcement option in Smart Card Management could create a large number of support issues. Therefore, DirectAccess Wizard no longer shows the option to enforce Smart Cards for all logins. Also, there is an advanced user notification that helps the user and also notifies the user about when the Smart Card is required.

Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting has been advanced on Windows 7, which includes a new advanced Windows 7 Troubleshooting entry point in Control Panel. You can use Troubleshoot Problems entry point to determine the cause of an issue (for example, a Web site fails to load).

User experience: To simplify the user experience in Windows 7 the Corporate Connectivity Notification has been shelved and the only thing that is displayed is Internet Access.
