Accidents in RVs: Threat to Family's Safety by:Ivonne Jade Agustin
Many of us have fond memories of staying in Recreational Vehicles (RV) during our childhood years
. It is where leisurely and fun activities are enjoyed by children during camping or long trips.
In recent years, however, it is alarming to know the increase of accident rate involving these vehicles especially because children are most likely to be harmed. Families who are victims of RV accidents often find themselves confronted with harm and possible fatal accidents during vacations.
Two Possible Accidents
A responsible adult should first know the difficulties and possible accidents they may face once they get inside an RV. Knowing such can help them to be prepared on how to deal with it rationally, or better yet, prevent them.
A vehicle accident is likely to occur because RVs are harder to operate than a regular vehicle. On the other hand, occupants of the RV can sue the owner if there is a pre-existing hazardous condition which caused injuries.
Memories of fun and excitement for children should not be tainted with tragedies that will burden them. These accidents can cause brain injuries and spinal cord injuries that will permanently affect one's way of life.
Vehicle Accidents
Large vehicles such as RVs are hard to maneuver. It would require an experienced and skilled driver to efficiently operate it. For starters, a teenager or a novice driver should not attempt to drive an RV especially if the road is crowded and there are other people who may be put at risk.
Drivers of RV are likely to be guilty of speeding, tailgating, and drunk driving because they are more complacent and comfortable with their vehicles.
So, if the driver had a little too much to drink or is tired and sleepy from a day of driving, it would be wise to just find a place to park where he can rest along with other occupants of the vehicle.
Product Defects
RVs can be pricey and impractical for families who won't use them often. As a solution, many are just renting them from companies and private owners who are responsible in maintaining their safety and good working condition.
This vehicle is more spacious than any other private land vehicle. Seatbelts are essential as it tucks occupants safely into their seats while the vehicle is in motion. All parts of the RV including the vents and tanks should be checked regularly and installed properly before it is rented out to other users.
To avoid these accidents, parents must remind their children to minimize standing and walking around the RV while in transit as they might stumble forward and be injured. Also, they must double-check everything from leaks inside the vehicle to the tires that might cause an accident.
Getting Help
For families who suffered the loss of their loved ones or those who have to endure long-term disability of a family member from any accident while in these RVs, it is important to immediately consult with a personal injury lawyer who can determine their claims on compensatory damages against the negligent party.
