Acer Stream - Packed With Impressive Features by:Chris Westley
The newly released Acer Stream provides an engaging user experience thanks to its
extensive spec list, which includes features such as a 5 megapixel camera and full Wi-Fi connectivity, not to mention the ability to shoot video in HD.
Under the hood, there is a powerful 1GHz processor which operates alongside the Android OS (v2.1) to provide a perfect blend of performance and versatility. All of these features are encased within a sleek and modern looking handset, meaning the Acer Stream provides the full package.
Dominating the front of the handset, the large 3.7 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen boasts the ability to display up to 16M colours with 480x 800 pixels. These figures result in a screen which boasts absolutely stunning clarity and display quality of the on screen content, perfect for viewing photos and videos taken of the integrated 5 megapixel camera.
This camera operates at a pixel resolution of 2560x 1920 which means the resulting images are of great quality, even when zoomed in. A number of included features such as autofocus and image stabilisation are provided to greatly simplify the task of taking great photos. When it comes to shooting video, the camera really comes into its own, boasting full HD (720p) video recording. When you're done filming, simply plug the phone into an HD TV via the micro HDMI port, and you can enjoy your handiwork in full HD on the big screen. Another feature of the camera is geo-tagging. Thanks to GPS, the location at which you took your photos or shot videos is automatically recorded, and can be viewed in map form by simply selecting a location with a tap of the screen.
The Acer Stream also does a great job of acting as a portable web browsing device. In areas covered by 3G, an HSDPA connection provides speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps alongside HSUPA at 2.0 Mbps. Although impressive enough, a faster connection can be attained whenever the handset is in proximity to a wireless internet router thanks to Wi-Fi connectivity.
As the Acer Stream utilises the Android OS, there is the standard package of Google features which includes Google Search, Maps and Gmail, along with YouTube, Google Talk and Picasa integration. Social networking fans will appreciate the Facebook and Twitter apps, whilst there are also a number of productivity features built in such as a document viewer which is compatible with Microsoft Office files. Music and video of many different file formats can be played through the internal media player, whilst additional entertainment features include a stereo FM radio and a selection of pre-installed games.
The standard spec list is impressive as it is, but let's not forget that access to the Android Market allows users to browse thousands of apps which can be downloaded, meaning the sky is the limit in terms of versatility and functionality.
Entertainment, productivity, web browsing, the Acer Stream has it all. Anyone looking for a head turning smartphone with all the features of more established smartphone brands need look no further than the fantastic Acer Stream.
