Thankfully, there are plenty of things we can use in our kitchen, in our spice cabinet and even the fridge. In the fridge we find fresh fruits and vegetables such as apples, pears, pineapple, carrots and potatoes. These veggies and fruits are good for the digestive system, balancing out your system.

Now we're going to look into the spice cabinet and see what we come up with. Cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, mace and even more spices have the ability to sooth and calm down your stomach when you feel a bout of acid reflux coming on.

Sometimes when you first have signs of a heartburn, drinking a large glass of water can be beneficial. Water can dilute the acids that are acting up and sometimes subside the symptoms of acid reflux.

Here's one of my grandmothers remedies that she swears by. Make a juice out of raw potatoes. Wash the potato well, do not peel, and cut up in to wedges, then put in a food processor and mix very well. Blend until liquefied, then mix with some other juice and serve. Drink this right away after making to get all you can out of it. This remedy will give you relief from heartburn.

More and more now days doctors and other experts are advising the use of licorice products for the relief of heartburn and acid reflux. Licorice soothes the stomach and relieves pressure that can cause acid reflux.

For some reason laying on your left side relieves gas in your stomach, therefore relieving the pain caused by acid reflux.

Anise, peppermint, lavender and chamomile tea has been a popular homemade remedy my grandmother used to brew, a remedy for many ailments including reducing the symptoms of acid reflux. It reportedly reduces the amount of acid in your stomach. Boil two cups of water and pour over your tea, strain filled with equal amounts of aniseed, peppermint, lavender and chamomile. Let it stand for about 5 minutes then further strain out the grounds, add a few drops of honey if desired for sweetness. Drink this tea first thing in the morning when you get up and then just before you hit the sack.

Chicory, another herb, contains compounds of endive and escarole. Chicory is mostly used in teas to help relax and subside acid reflux incidents. Drinking two cups a day, morning and before bedtime, can relieve acid reflux and heartburn. Some people also use chicory in fresh garden salads.

Anise is a very popular remedy when it comes to indigestion and acid reflux. There are several types of anise and it is recommended that you use sweet European and green anise, avoid using star and caraway varieties. Add a couple drops to your favorite tea and discover the benefits it has when it comes to relaxing your acid reflux.

Peppermint is said to be a way of relieving heartburn and acid reflux. My experience with peppermint has not been so pleasant. Other than eating ant-acids, peppermint seems to complicate my heartburn more. I have noticed that peppermint relieves bloating and gas, but as far as my heartburn I see no good effects in myself.


Lavender, an herb, is best known to help with digestion and is known to help heal the esophagus. Lavender is used to make a tea that comforts and soothes the stomach and esophagus.

Papaya is a tropical fruit that is filled with enzymes that are known to comfort heartburn and acid reflux. Being used for hundreds of years, papaya can help with stomach disorders like acid reflux and irritable bowel syndrome.
