Since the cinema was found, the film-makers have used animation technique to produce visual effect like explosion, rocket, and many more. The first full animation film was Humorous Phases of Funny Faces (1906). It was produced by a cartoonist of American newspaper, J. Stuart Blackton. Several next years, Felix, a cat by Otto Messmer, appeared for the first time in Feline Follies (1919) and Musical Mews (1919). Then, this superstar cat appeared in hundred movies in the following years. This cat was noted as the first animation character that was successful to become merchandise.

The Last Life (1928) was noted as the last animation movie of Felix, along with its popularity that went down because of the presence of sound technology and the shellacking to compete with a superstar of Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse. Meanwhile, Walt Disney in this era was successful through the cartoon series of Alice and Oswald, a rabbit.
