Add A Wireless Camera To A Remote Control Helicopter

The beauty of playing with a remote control helicopter is the experience it gives

. People like to feel in control and to play with extreme toys to cool off and relax but sometimes, it can get a little bit boring flying the same helicopter around a certain area just for the sake of it. To add on to the fun experience, consider adding a wireless camera to the RC chopper. It would be more interesting to let the helicopter fly over certain areas and record an aerial video of what the area looks like. An aerial view of the playground area or a neighboring thicket would be fun to see considering aerial shots of anything are rare treats.

The reason it is good to have a wireless camera is that they are typically smaller and that does not affect the flight of the remote control helicopter. They also have inbuilt transmitters so that the video can be captured on an RX. Purchase a simple all-in-one minicam and attach it to the base of the toy. It takes a bit of skill to attach the camera but it is not an affair that is only for the technically gifted. Minicams are affordable and small enough but they also give decent picture quality so that the whole experience is worthwhile. This transforms the coolest flying toy into something beyond a flight simulator. The remote control helicopter becomes a fun spying tool for the kids to see what their friends are up to during play time.

Some weight considerations to note

A typical minicam weighs about 10 grammes and therefore, the rest of the added weight is expected to come from the power source of the camera. It is advisable to use a different power source from the main battery source which the toy uses. In many cases, there is less power distributed to the main engine and in many cases, the wiring will cause interruptions when the tail motors are turning. Using a separate battery pack will add about will add only about 100 grammes, meaning that the weight is still sustainable. The RX can be connected to either a portable Digicam or just fed live to the TV. The remote control helicopter is best designed with high quality material so that attachment of the camera is easier, with epoxy being a preferred adhesive.

Even with the camera attached, a remote control helicopter functions efficiently, with smooth dual side-fly movement. For proper visibility, they have LED light so that they can be identified in the air. It would not be nice to fly them in the pitch dark night and end up crashing them in a mean neighbors compound. Some have built in gyro systems so that they can hover in the air very impressively. The high strength metal allows the toys to survive sudden bumps while in flight. Falls are normal, especially when someone is still learning to fly them. Therefore, the tough material used will give the craft some extra durability, unlike when a lighter and more fragile plastic is used.
