Adding Curb Appeal To Your Exterior

Have you recently purchased a new house and want to give it a little pizzazz on the outside to be distinctly yours

? Are you in the process of selling a house and want to make it stand out in a tough market so it sells sooner? No matter which situation sounds more like yours, there are several things you can do to the exterior of the home to make it look nicer, reduce the maintenance needed to keep it up, and tricks to keep the energy bills down. The gutters, the siding, and installing new windows are easy ways to spruce up the look of the house and reduce the energy bills at the same time.

Remember the Framework

How many times have you heard a person say a house has good bones? You might have heard it a lot. What are the bones of the house? The foundation, the structure, the roof, the siding, and the main elements that make up the outside of the house. Can you ever improve the bones of the house? You can improve some of it without spending a lot of money.

The sidewalk, the porch, and the outside of the house can all have cosmetic improvements done to them in order for them to look better. A coat of paint, some seal in the cracks, and a little bit of TLC can go a long way on a house, especially if it's an older house. What if you need to go a little deeper with the improvements of the house? What can you do?

Lower the Maintenance of the Exterior

You can always switch the siding of the house. If there are cedar shingles you don' like, then you can add fiberglass siding that does not require staining at all. Siding is durable, keeps the insulation protected and is a great way to beautify the house as you keep the maintenance down. Fiberglass or even aluminum siding doesn't ever require painting. It might occasionally need to be washed, if you live in a shady area that gets little sunshine. Otherwise, you are all set. Siding can be installed if you want to change the color of your house or even the look of it.

Another way to help keep the maintenance down on the exterior is to change the gutters. Do you like to get up on a ladder and dig all of the leaves and debris out of those gutters? Most people don't, so installing a Gutter Helmet system to the gutters will keep all of the leaves out, so you don't have to get out the ladder each year and climb on the roof to do it yourself. The Gutter Helmet automatically keeps the leaves from falling in, meaning you have clutter free gutters that will move the rain away from the house quickly and safely.

A metal roof is one other way to improve curb appeal and keep the maintenance down. A metal roof doesn't require any maintenance and will probably outlive you. The roof will last forever on a house, so choose the color wisely so it matches the siding of the house. A metal roof keeps the elements out like every other roof does, and it lasts longer.
