Advantages Of Breastfeeding And Steps To Make It Easier

There is hardly anything that can help you bond with your child more than breastfeeding

. Many studies show that it is an extremely advantageous thing to do. In the end, it is your choice on whether or not you want to go this route. I will go over some things so that you can more easily decide whether or not you want to breastfeed.

The most important advantage to breastfeeding your baby is that it allows you to develop a close bond with them. The second important thing is that breast milk is especially formulated for your babys unique needs. It is organic and has no added preservatives or other chemicals like the formulas you can buy at the store.

Breastfed babies have an added immunity to infection, asthma, decaying teeth, constipation, eczema and diarrhea. Not only is breastfeeding advantageous for your baby but it helps you. It will enable you to burn more calories and lose the weight you gained during pregnancy. Not only that but studies prove that you will be less likely to get breast cancer, ovarian cancer or osteoporosis. Breastfeeding is cheaper than buying formula at the store and is always available when your baby is hungry.

For the first few days after the baby is born you will produce a yellow substance called colostrum. This is exactly what your baby needs so you do not need to worry about them not getting enough milk. It is perfectly normal for your baby to lose a little bit of weight at first. They will quickly gain it back in the near future. During the first couple of days you should expect to see one or two wet diapers per day. Three days after birth you will start producing mature milk. During this phase you should expect to see five or six wet diapers and three or four dirty diapers each day.

If you are having trouble producing enough milk there are prescriptions available to help you lactate more. There are a lot of serious side effects with these medications, though. There are also natural medicines that can help you along your way. None of these have side effects. Milk thistle and fenugreek help your body to produce more milk and keep your blood sugar balanced. Borage is helpful in encouraging the milk to flow more freely and helping to stop constipation.

Make sure your doctor knows about any natural remedies you decide to use. They can conteract with other medications that you might already be taking.
