Advantages Of Wooden Buildings In Sites With Restricted Access
Timber or wooden buildings created from Machine Profile Log (MPL)
, have unique characteristics in both manufacture and construction which makes them an ideal choice where there is narrow or restricted access to site. A wooden (MPL) building will provide all the advantages of a sustainable building which is individually designed, in addition to the very fast construction times which result from the off-site manufacture. A 100m2 MPL timber building can be completed in as little as 28 days: which also makes a wooden building ideal for educational facilities where a summer holiday build is required. hat types of site restrictions can a wooden building overcome? Unlike ready constructed modular units, off-site modular arrives on site with the individually machine engineered logs in packs. These packs are usually square in section. Where there is seriously restricted access, smaller pack sizes can be specified. This gives many advantages over other types of off-site manufacture; where large panels can require either cranes or wide access for safe delivery.
1. Overhead cables.
A timber MPL structure will not generally require craneage and can be moved to the point of construction with a tele-handler or side loader. This packs can be easily moved below any overhead cables without delays on site whilst expensive re-location of cables and inconvenience to the neighbours is negotiated.
2. Narrow access.
A timber building moved onto site by side-loader can be mechanically delivered without real cost implication provided the width is sufficient for the side-loader (approx 7'6"). Where sites are so restricted that even this causes an issue the logs can be manually moved along any pathway wide enough for a person to walk.
3. Time Restrictions.
A 100m2 Log building can be completed in as little as 28 days: making this build system ideal for educational facilities where a summer holiday building is required.
4. Weather.
With an MPL Wooden building there are no "wet" trades. This means that freezing or wet weather does not delay progress. The logs continue to be added throughout the cold-snap or rain and this enables the build schedule to stay on track - even in the winter.
5. Environmental Sensitivity.
A wooden building of MPL design is a dry construction type which is off-site manufactured: meaning there is no need for noisy or disruptive machinery on-site. This allows construction to proceed with minimal interference not only to the neighbours, but even to wildlife. There is no need for on-site chemicals in most cases, so there is no odour to cause distress, and very little cutting of timber on site which means nominal sawdust only ,and no airborne dust such as that created by cement or plaster mixes.
6. Sustainability.
In addition to all the above, a timber or wooden building is also a sustainable building so it will have the least impact on the environment throughout its manufacture, construction and when the time comes (in 80 ++++ years!) its eventual demolition. This also makes it more suitable to sites where a sustainable building is specified.
To conclude; a MPL wooden building offers a practical and sustainable option for restricted sites.
