Advice On Changing Your Career

Changing career can mark a significant turning point in your life

. It can either lead you to a better job or leave you unemployed for a while.

Considering the number of fresh graduates per year and the highly demanding job market of today, changing career can be more challenging than you can imagine. You can expect a closefight competition as you transit from your current job to a new career.

Thus before coming into a decision, firstly weigh the situation. What are the reasons that lead you to plan for a career change? Is it because your current job has a minimal pay or is it simply because you are not happy anymore? If this is the case, make sure that you already have found a better alternative job before submitting your resignation so that you can immediately start anew after the other. Make sure that you also have enough savings and have paid off any assets and liabilities. Instantly leaving your current job without an alternative and less savings can put you at risk for longer unemployment and financial crisis. However if your reasons revolve around having an issue with co-workers, poor job performance, or hectic schedule avoid attempting to quit without taking an effort to fix it. Compose yourself and show what you got to level up in your current job. Take projects easily, join trainings, and earn recognitions and certificates. Take any opportunity that will advance you to job promotion.

However, if you have been laid off then it seems that you have no choice at all. If this is the case, do not apply for a job that will give you the same position. Check your savings and disposable income. You can use your savings to enroll in trainings and gain new qualifications for you to be able to apply for a higher position. This can also be the chance for you to follow your passion by getting a qualification training that is suitable for your field of expertise. Give your life a new spark by considering a new location. Once you finish your training, consider applying in big cities or if you have previously worked in a big city, try looking for opportunities in your hometown. With your experience and new qualifications, you can advance to managerial or supervisory positions in some big business in your local area.

Changing career can really take time. Thus be patient and avoid being too pushy. Employers would know if you are too desperate looking for a job and this could be a minus point on your side. While waiting for your dream job, consider some part time jobs that will give you an income, such as teaching or doing some tutorial jobs. You can also use the knowledge you have earned from your previous job in building an own business or work as a freelancer.
