Various problems occurring in student life
It is said that college time is one of the best periods in persons life. Still, it does not mean that all students are in clover. Life of young people is full of challenges and they need to make adult decisions. Lacking self-organization and time-management skills, students often have troubles with meeting the deadlines. For example, books borrowed from college libraries are rarely returned in time. The same goes for turning in the students papers.
Students unions may act on behalf of learners in various cases. These might be library fines or discipline issues, for example. Students may turn to unions both in cases if they feel that they have been treated unfair or admit that it is their own fault. Advocacy is one of the main functions of the students unions, though it is not to be regarded a universal cure for all problems.
Precautionary measures for students turning to the students unions
Some students hope that they will manage to escape unpunished in case if they turn to the students unions. They are in the wrong. Advocacy of the students union presupposes neither commutation nor abolition of a penalty. It only guarantees that all supplementary factors would be taken into consideration. Some students lack abilities of diplomacy, turning to the students unions might be useful for them. It might help not only to solve a concrete problem but to develop ones communicative skills as well.
In order to enhance the effectiveness of cooperation with the students unions, a person has to
be sincere describing the situation;
inform the member of the students unions on different supplementary factors;
adopt useful experience of the member of the students unions developing ones communicative skills.
