Affiliate Program Management - The Advantages Of Affiliate Programs
An online affiliate program is one in which a merchant agrees to pay a web site vendor for sending leads to their site, increasing traffic and sales
. Once the agreement has been completed, the vendor becomes an affiliate member. Each affiliate member is assigned a unique identification code. The affiliate program management features of the web site enables traffic to each vendor's site to be tracked through these codes. Customers usually arrive at the site by one of two ways. If they know the web site address of the affiliate program's home page, they enter the URL directly into their browser.
If they know generic information about the product or services they want, they enter it into the search engine and select from the options provided. The affiliate program management aspect of the site contains several pieces of information, including the identification code. This enables reporting for payment to be accurate. Payment amounts required under the program agreement are made based on this information. The most successful types of programs are those in which the affiliate member's site contains content that is closely related to that of the affiliate program.
Affiliate members who know their products and understand their customers are the most profitable. There are three types of agreements used in affiliate program management, pay-per-sale, pay-per-click and pay-per-lead. In pay per-sale agreements, also known as cost-per-sale, payment is rendered when customers make a purchase. It is either a fixed dollar amount or percentage. Pay-per-click programs are based on payment when customers go to the member's site, regardless of whether a purchase is made. Pay-per-lead agreements are based on payment when customers fill out a form and submit it to the site. These leads are generally requesting more information on a specific product or a newsletter request.
There are several advantages to being part of a successful affiliate program. The affiliate member does not need to communicate directly with the customers. This is particularly useful for small Internet based companies who do not have the resources to handle volume. Affiliate program management includes the handling of products and services. This means that shipping, refunds, questions, etcetera are channeled through the merchant. As the affiliate program does most of the marketing as well, the member has very few investment requirements. If the vendor offers popular products with a good reputation, the venture will be profitable.
